10-Year-Old Boy Arrested for Marijuana Possession After Trying to Sell Mom's Weed
A 10-year-old boy and his mother have recently been arrested for marijuana possession. The arrests came after the boy stole his mother's stash of weed and tried to sell it at school.
Local reports in Red Oak, Iowa say the boy discovered his mom's weed inside their home. He took the cannabis from where it was hidden and took it to school with him. He then tried to sell it to a classmate. The student then reported him to teachers, who immediately called the police.
After hearing the young boy's story, the cops obtained a warrant and searched the boy's home.
They then proceeded to arrest both the boy's 34-year-old mother and the 10-year-old boy for marijuana possession.
The mother was held at the Montgomery County Jail on a $1000 cash bond.
So far, there is no word on the status of the young boy, however, authorities have said his case will go to a juvenile court.
Cannabis laws in Iowa state that marijuana possession is a misdemeanor. First offenses carry a $1,000 fine and up to six months in jail. Second offenses are up to $1,875 in fines and a year in jail. Third offenses can lead to up to 2 years jail time. With regards to the mother and her son, it is yet unclear as to whether or not they will serve any time behind bars.

However, it's important to note that recent statistics show that cannabis use among minors is lower than it has been in 20 years.
