If you didn’t watch CNN this New Year’s, well, you missed out. The network made headlines as the clock turned twelve and not for the reasons you might think.
Andy Cohen took over as Anderson Cooper’s co-host for the New Year’s show after Kathy Griffin was axed from the network after making fun of President Trump by holding his mock severed head in a photo shoot. The Bravo star and executive producer of ‘The Real Housewives’ franchise was set to garner a lot of attention for the New Year’s show from fans who were eager to bring in the new year with a familiar face.
However, it wasn’t Cohen who ended up stealing the show, oh no. Reporter Randi Kaye has garnered a lot of attention (albeit, mostly negative) for her segment from Denver, Colorado. The AC 360 corresponded showed the rest of the US how people in Mile High City were bringing in the new year, much to the surprise of viewers.
In the segment, Kaye was seen on board a ‘cannabus’, alongside a multitude of weed revelers. At various points, she held a joint, lit a bong and marveled over a bong gas mask. Oh, the horror! She also sported a pretty cool pair of weed leaf earrings.

She even held out a joint to the camera and said, “this is for you, Andy!” addressing Cohen who was situated in Times Square.
It’s important to note that Kaye (or Kush Kaye as she is now known) wasn’t seen smoking any weed throughout the segment, despite the fact that the people around her clearly were.
Marijuana is (and has been for a while now) legal in the state of Colorado. Regardless, many people were not happy about the broadcast. Some have expressed their shock and disdain whilst others were pleasantly amused by the antics they witnessed on TV.
Let’s not forget that as the clock struck midnight, recreational marijuana in California became legal as well, making this particular CNN broadcast particularly relevant.
It seems 2018 could very well be the year of weed.
