Green Jobs Are Here to Stay

In the rapidly developing cannabis industry, a myriad of products and services have emerged, generating promising opportunities for hundreds of thousands of green jobs that are here to stay.

Entry-level Green Jobs

Entry-level green jobs are a great place to begin: Wellness consultants, known as budtenders, at Harborside Health Center, the largest medical cannabis dispensary in California, start at $16 per hour. These green jobs include full health care and benefits. Other medical marijuana dispensaries like San Francisco’s Green Door offer similarly competitive positions for entry-level applicants.

Manufacturing Green Jobs

Green jobs include manufacturing as well: average factory positions at companies like Bhang Chocolate and Dixie Elixirs are roughly $15 per hour. Cannabis testing facilities such as SC labs and Steephill Labs have entry-level positions testing cannabis products for potency and quality.

Technology Green Jobs

Cannabis technology companies like Leafly and GreenRush are leading the way in adding green jobs within the larger tech sector. Innovative technology continues to emerge including encrypted database technology which protects medical cannabis patient privacy. In addition, bleeding edge point of sale software for medical cannabis dispensaries allows for streamlined marijuana transactions.

On-Demand Green Jobs

On-demand cannabis delivery is a particularly exciting new cannabis industry sector garnering significant press attention. Cannabis delivery aggregator services, similar to food versions like Grubhub and Delivery.com, provide patients the ability to order on-demand cannabis delivery. Simply log in, upload your ID and medical marijuana doctor recommendation, get verified in minutes, choose your favorite dispensary, and order.

On-demand cannabis delivery expands green jobs by increasing demand for cannabis delivery drivers, dispatchers, and operations staff. Some cannabis delivery services, like Lifted420 in San Francisco, even offer faster delivery via motorcycle. Motorcycles are able to cut through dense urban traffic, allowing for cannabis delivery times that are significantly faster than the competition.

Cannabis Ambassador Green Jobs

On-demand cannabis delivery also is ushering in a new era of affiliate marketing, a tactic previously reserved for companies like Lyft and Uber. Green job ambassador programs are providing extra income for thousands of medical cannabis patients enthusiastic to share their passion for cannabis with friends, family, and social media followers.

Green Management Jobs

Beyond entry-level there’s growing demand for green jobs in upper management, business consultants, and investors. Groups such as Privateer Holdings and ArcView are pioneering capital investments in the cannabis space by backing newly formed cannabis companies. Events such as the Cannabis Investor Summit and the Cannabis Business Summit & Expo provide a forum for prospective investors and marijuana startups to convene.

Green Job Training & Education

All green jobs, whether or not it's medical cannabis dispensaries or cannabis edible companies, require an up-to-date medical cannabis recommendation. Schools specializing in the cannabis trade such as Oaksterdam University and Clover Leaf University offer students a curriculum centered on every aspect of the cannabis industry. Although the majority of the green jobs opening don’t require anything but a medical cannabis card, it’s always advantageous to increase your knowledge on cannabis and the industry around it.

Green Job Opportunities Abound

An opportunity of a generation is in our midst, providing financial and cultural possibilities that a decade ago were nearly impossible. Only now are we truly able to witness the incredible power of cannabis as both a medicine and a commodity, establishing an industry that provides thousands of green jobs. In just the last decade, we've seen extraordinary changes regarding perceptions and impact of cannabis. It’s exciting to imagine what will come in the next.
