How To Make A Gingerbread Weed House
With Christmas quickly approaching, it's the time of the year for many festive traditions. Picking out the perfect tree to decorate, stringing lights up all around your house, shopping for all of the perfect gifts for friends and family, and let's not forget, making a gingerbread house! This holiday season, why not try and spruce up your old gingerbread house tradition, with an extra treat: cannabis! Here’s how to make your very own gingerbread weed house.
Where Do I Start?
You’ll want to begin by gathering the ingredients and equipment you will need. Before you start mixing and baking your gingerbread weed house, you'll want to take some small pieces of cardboard and make stencils of the shapes you'll cut out for building the house later.
For the cardboard stencil shapes, you'll want four rectangular-shaped pieces that will form the front and back walls as well as two pieces for the roof.
Now that you've gotten that out of the way, you'll want to grab all of your necessary supplies for the house, and of course some candy for decoration! We used round peppermints and sno-caps for the sidewalk, Mike and Ike candies, gumdrops, and small candy canes to decorate ours, but this is your gingerbread weed house, so take the journey however you'd like!
Here is what you will need:
- 1/2 cup cannabutter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup dark corn syrup
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp ground ginger
- 1 tbsp ground cloves
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 cups flour
- 3 tbsp water
- Frosting
- Various candies for decorating
- Cling wrap
- Large mixing bowl
- Hand mixer
- Baking Sheet
- Non-stick baking pan
- Piping bag
- Rolling pin
- Kitchen knife
Time To Get Baked!
First, start by adding the cannabutter, brown sugar, dark corn syrup, cinnamon, ginger, ground cloves, and baking soda into a large mixing bowl.
Using your hand mixer, begin to mix the ingredients together thoroughly until your mixture is smooth and creamy. Next, add the flour to the mixture and continue to blend well. Mix the water into the mixture as well.
Once you have everything added and mixed, use your hands to knead the mixture into a tightly packed ball. Once the ball is formed, wrap your gingerbread weed house mixture in cling wrap and pop it into the refrigerator to chill for 30 minutes.
Next, go ahead and grab your baking sheet, pull your wrapped ball out of the refrigerator, and place it on the center of the pan. Using a rolling pin, thoroughly roll the ball out flat in all directions to cover the baking sheet making your weed gingerbread into a rectangle.
Use a knife to trim any excess dough to make a perfect rectangle. With your rectangle laying horizontal in front of you, lay out your cardboard stencils with the two roof pieces horizontal on the top, and the remaining four pieces for the walls vertically underneath. Once they are placed, use your knife to cut them out. Then, use your knife to peel away any of the excess dough around your precious gingerbread weed house pieces!
Use the remaining dough to form a square-shaped base for your house and pop the dough in the oven to bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes.
Once you've baked all of your pieces and let them cool, it’s time to start assembling your house. Start with the base piece and, using your frosting, glue the walls together beginning with the back, sides, and then front covering all edges in icing to keep things held together.
Then, line the roof pieces with icing and place the roof on. Once the roof is fitted in place, cover the entire roof with frosting and spread it out smoothly and evenly.
