How To Make Vape Oil For Weed Pens

There are countless ways to smoke weed. Some of us prefer cannabis wrapped in rolling papers, some enjoy taking hits from a glass bowl or a one-hitter, and sometimes a bong just feels like the only way to go. But, there's one method that has quickly become one of the most popular cannabis consumption methods on the market: vaping. Below, we’ll show you how to make homemade vape oil you can use with your favorite oil vapes.
Why Vape?
While there is a certain cultural significance associated with smoking, vaping is considerably better for your lungs and overall health than smoking a traditional joint. Vaping avoids the harmful smoke inhaled when combusting raw flower, leaving you with only a light cloud of vapor.
Depending on how much you smoke, making your own vape oil at home could also save you money and help you dose more accurately. The ability to gauge how much oil is in your pen as well as how much you are going through will give you a better idea of your THC intake at any given time. It’s also worth noting that vape oil often contains a higher concentration of THC, so it’s best to start slow and move up from there.
Finally, if discretion is a concern, the vape pen is undoubtedly the way to go. Portable vapes are generally far more discreet than traditional joints, both in scent and appearance.
All you need when vaping is a battery or mod, which can be re-charged use after use, and a refillable cartridge or tank. Of course, you will also need vape oil. Read on to find out how to make your own.
You Will Need
The ingredients for making your own vape oil at home are fairly simple. You will need:
– Baking pan
– Saucepan
– Aluminum foil
– 5-6 grams of ground cannabis (of your choice!)
– 1 bottle of Everclear, or Pure Grain Alcohol
– Cheesecloth
– 2 Mason Jars
– Large Pyrex
– Propylene Glycol and Vegetable Glycerin
Time To Decarboxylate
Before you do anything else, you’ll need to decarboxylate. When you apply heat to cannabis you are essentially “decarbing” it. This is the process of extracting the tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA, which is non-psychoactive) stored inside the trichomes of your flower and transforming it into THC (which is psychoactive). It is this activation process that allows you to get high from consuming cannabis.
Start by preheating your oven to 225 degrees as well as freezing one of your two mason jars. While the oven is heating up, go ahead and lay out your baking pan and line it with aluminum foil. Once that's finished, evenly sprinkle out your ground up cannabis onto the foil.
Bake this in the oven for about 30 minutes to pull the THCA out of your flower and turn it into the almighty THC! Once you've removed it from the oven, place the cannabis into your chilled Mason jar.
Grab your Everclear or Pure Grain Alcohol and fill the jar up until the cannabis is fully submerged. Swish the jar around to mix everything evenly and then chill the jar and its contents again, for another minute.
Next, strain the mixture into the other chilled mason jar using a cheesecloth to make sure the solids are separated from the liquid. After pouring, make sure to squeeze the cheesecloth to remove any of the excess liquid that might be in the captured bud.
Fill a saucepan with about 4 inches of water and place your jar with the cannabis liquid into the center. Let it heat and cook until the alcohol evaporates. When finished, remove from the heat and set the pan aside.
Mix in equal parts of the propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin to your jar and stir well.
And that's it! Now all you need to do is fill up your cartridge or tank of choice and vape away! Not sure how to vape? Check out our handy how to vape guide. You can store your newly made vape oil in a glass dropper bottle and use the dropper or a syringe to fill your tank or cartridge over and over again until it's time to make the next batch.
